Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a caravan was set alight in Aylesbury.

Officers from Thames Valley Police were alerted to an incident taking place at a layby off the LB03 next to Bicester Road at 11:20pm on Thursday (July 10th).

When officers arrived at the scene, they found that a caravan had caught fire, and had made a large bang that could be heard around the locality of the layby.

Emergency services, including the fire and rescue service, were called to the scene to deal with the incident. The fire was promptly extinguished, with no one being injured in the blaze.

Investigations have since been started and have found there was no one in the caravan itself at the time the fire took hold.

Speaking on the incident, Ashlee Billington from Thames Valley Police said that officers believe the incident was started on purpose.

"We believe that this fire was started deliberately and so are investigating it as an incident of arson," Billington explained.

“I am appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to please come forward.

“I would like to hear from anybody who has dash-cam, CCTV or doorbell camera footage that has captured the incident to please contact us."

Anyone who may be able to help officers in their investigations can get in touch by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 43250347218.
