Police are working to trace the owner of several war medals and jewellery recovered during a vehicle search after they were suspected to have been stolen.

Officers requested the vehicle, a Ford Focus, to stop in Watford’s Cassiobury estate at around 1.30am on Thursday (14 August) as they had reason to suspect it was linked to criminality.

After a short pursuit, the unattended vehicle was located near Watford Bowls Club at around 1.45am.

Following a search of the car, police recovered several medals – one with the name ‘A H LAMBERT’ inscribed on it along with a potential reference number beginning with K.

They also seized items of jewellery including brooches and necklaces, and a quantity of old coins.

At the same time, a thorough area search was carried out by responding officers, but no arrests were made.

Work is ongoing to trace the occupant(s) of the vehicle.

Detective Sergeant Vicky Sexton, from the Watford Local Crime Unit, said: “These items are clearly of great sentimental value to somebody and so far, we’ve not been able to match them to any current crime reports on our system.

“We are releasing these images in the hope that someone may recognise them and come forward, so we can reunite them with their rightful owner."
