A man from Amersham has just completed a 263-mile walk from Cornwall to London with no money.

46 year old Metropolitan Police officer Tom Harrison set off from Land's End on the 12th of September in aid of the British Red Cross Society's Ukraine Crisis Appeal and arrived in London yesterday.

To make the physical, mental, and emotional challenge that bit harder, Mr Harrison also chose to do it without any money, instead relying on the kindness of strangers for food and accommodation.

Knocked on 100 homes

Throughout the course of the journey, Mr Harrison knocked on over 100 homes asking for food or a place to say. And while there were a couple of moments where he thought he might have to sleep outside, someone always offered him a place eventually.

He said: "It's been faintly mad, to be honest. There's something in you that doesn't actually want to have to knock on doors and say 'sorry I haven't got anything'. That links back to the people in Ukraine, how they've been forced out their homes and having to rely on others."

He's thanked all the "heroes" that helped him out along his journey.

How much has he raised?

So far, the father of two has raised over £4,500, soaring past his initial target of £1,000. He explained what the money would go towards: "here in the UK they're helping with logistics and providing people with welcome packs.

"So it's just got stuff in there like shower gel, deodorant, sim cards, stuff like that. I hope the £4,500 can help quite a few people."
