Buckinghamshire residents have been warned against trick or treating this year.

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue are warning residents to stay safe over this Halloween weekend.

Karen Lock is Marketing & Domestic Safety Officer:

"If you are still planning to celebrate Halloween please do it safely. "Every year on October 31st children and adults are injured in accidents where candles have set fire to costume and hair.

"Plastic capes and bin liners often used as costumes are fire risks, as well as lights and decorative items."

She gave this advice:

  • Never put a candle in a plastic lantern/container
  • Make sure candles are securely placed and away from children
  • Buy costumes from a trusted store or website
  • Make sure costumes have been tested to see if they're flammable, they should have CE on the label
  • When using decorative lighting make sure sockets aren't overloaded and turn them off at night
  • Meanwhile, Buckinghamshire Council have been sharing recipes for anyone pumkin carving.
  • New research from sustainability charity Hubbub has revealed that 12.8m pumpkins bought for decoration during Halloween are likely to be left uneaten.
