Bedfordshire Police have closed the A421 in both directions this morning following a serious crash.

Drivers are being diverted but are asked to avoid the area and find alternative routes where possible.

The road is closed between the Marsh Leys A6 junction and the Elstow A6 junction.

Police were on the scene around 3:15am.

National Highways say investigations are taking place and drivers are facing long delays, with five miles of congestion.

Up to 70 minutes has been added above normal travel time.
