£3.5m plan to improve A41 traffic in Aylesbury set for go-ahead
Bicester Road is notorious for congestion at rush hour, normally

Journey times on the A41 in Aylesbury could be improved by as much as 50% - as plans look set to be approved.
It covers the Bicester Road stretch and includes:
- Widening parts for extra lanes, between Paradise Orchard and Jackson Road
- Moving the bus lane near Berryfields to make space for traffic, then installing one closer to Jackson Road
- Replacing the Jackson Road roundabout with traffic lights.
Bucks Council reckon all of this would improve journey times by as much as 50 per-cent, or around a minute or so at these pinch-points.
The traffic lights at Jackson Road would be synchronised with those at Berryfields, the council say.
The widened road between those two junctions would be four-lanes wide at one point, allowing more space for traffic a peak times and helping to cut queues.
The bus lane would then start just past the bridge and end just before it gets to Jackson Road.
A public consultation saw 143 people give their views on the scheme
Concerns were raised about access from side roads and the replacement of the roundabout.
The Council report says designs will be modified to make sure people coming from side streets can still get out.
Proposals to widen the stretch from Jackson Road to Rabans Lane have been dropped.
Overall, there was widespread support for the ideas.
Nick Naylor, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, says:
"The A41 is an important route between the town centre, Berryfields and Aylesbury Vale Parkway, and traffic gets very heavy at peak times"
"We've been doing site surveys and traffic modelling, which we are using to help design the best solution and we now need the public to view the proposals and share their feedback".
