A school in Stevenage has seen 15 people assessed after a suspected carbon monoxide leak.

The East of England Ambulance Service has released a statement, saying they were called just after 1pm yesterday to Martins Wood Primary School.

Hertfordshire Police sent local officers to the scene at Mildmay Road, closing the area as well as Derby Way to allow emergency services access.

In their statement, EEAST said: "This followed reports of a number of children and adults becoming unwell due to a suspected carbon monoxide leak.

"A total of 15 patients were assessed at the scene – six adults and nine children. One adult and two children have been taken to the Lister Hospital by ambulance for further assessment. We have given advice to parents on what they should do if their child feels unwell later. If parents have any concerns about their children’s condition following today’s incident, please call 111."

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service are believed to have located and isolated the fault, but are said to have remained on the site yesterday to continue checks.

Martins Wood Primary School yesterday confirmed through their social media that the children were safe, but unable to leave the school.

More information was expected to be sent to parents and carers, by the school Parentmail.
