30,000 fans expected to attend Stadium MK today for Women’s World Cup warm up

The European champions are to host Portugal this afternoon at the MK Stadium; it’s thought over 30,000 fans will see the team off today before the World Cup.

It’s the Lionesses first game since losing to Australia on April 11.

The pride then fly to Australia where they play Canada in a friendly warm up game on 14 July, eight days before their official opening game against Haiti.

Carrie Mancini Plays for Woburn and Wavendon FC, she says after training alongside some of the Lionesses she feels proud, and she hopes that the younger generations will see the squad as strong role models:

“To see and hear of them being broadcasted on tv, is a huge achievement for women in general.”

“No matter what the sport. I think we need to see more women in sport in general.”
