The successful bid will provide regeneration funding for the Kingsland Campus in the Bedfordshire town.

As part of the plans, a new leisure centre will be built which will feature an 8 lane pool, squash courts and a fitness centre.

A community facility will also open, allowing people to get support and learn new skills.

The development at Kingsland campus will include a new community facility for people to get support and learn new skills.

Cycleways, bus drop off areas and green spaces will also be created.

Together with the investment in the new Houstone Secondary School, located at the Kingsland Campus, it's hoped this latest funding will help to link new and existing communities.

Cllr Kevin Collins, Executive Member for Planning and Regeneration said:

‘’Securing this funding to create this major new development in Houghton Regis is fantastic news.

The new leisure facilities and community hub will provide residents with a wonderful asset where they can have fun, keep fit, get support or learn new skills.

It’s another huge boost for Central Bedfordshire as we continue to drive the area forward at pace.”

MP Andrew Selous added:

“I am delighted about these new leisure and wellbeing facilities for Houghton Regis which I have lobbied hard for.

Along with the new Houstone Secondary School and the new All Saints View independent living scheme, this new investment is a major vote of confidence in a town with a bright future.”
