2024 Paris Olympics: who are the athletes from Bucks Beds and Herts?
A total of fourteen athletes from the three counties are set to compete in Paris
The day has finally arrived for athletes in Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire to kick start to the competition in which they will face world champions in up to 32 sports - at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Months of training have gone into preparing for the major event, for which Team GB is hoping to bring home a record number of medals.
Who are the athletes from Buckinghamshire who qualified for the Olympics?
Morgan Lake, from Milton Keynes, is on Athletics team competing in High Jump. These will be her third Games, having previously reached the final in her discipline.
Josie Knight, from Aylesbury, will be competing in Cycling Track in her second Olympic Games. She previously won medals in several national and international competitions.
Heidi Long, from Chalfont St Peter, is a Rowing athlete born in an area with a long-lasting legacy in the sport. She will be competing in memory of her father, who passed away last year.
Lauren Torley, from High Wycombe, is one of the teammates on the Rugby Sevens Women squad. She was part of the gold medal-winning Team GB squad at the 2023 European Games.
Who are the athletes from Bedfordshire who qualified for the Olympics?
Revée Walcott-Nolan, from Luton, is on the Athletics team competing in the 1500m. She will be aiming for gold in her second Olympics.
Ethan Vernon, from Bedford, will be competing in Cycling Track. Starting in BMX racing as a child, he went on to find a passion for the adrenaline-driven discipline he will compete in for his second Olympic Games.
Who are the athletes from Hertfordshire who qualified for the Olympics?
Phoebe Gill, from St Albans, is on the Athletics team competing in the 800m Middle Distance Run. At the age of 17, she is one of the youngest athletes on Team GB, qualifying last month in an impressive run.
Elizabeth Bird, from St Albans, will join fellow athletes on the Athletics team in the 3000m discipline. She made an astounding recovery from previous injuries, setting new records and heading into her second Olympics.
Jodie Williams, from Welwyn Garden City, will be competing on the 400m run, joining Team GB's impressive Athletics team. After reaching the final in Tokyo, she is aiming for gold in her third Olympics.
Kimberley Woods, who trains at the world-renowned Lee Valley White Water Centre training ground, and who studied at the University of Hertfordshire, will be competing in Canoe Slalom. These will be her second Olympic Games after securing wins in several international competitions.
Anna Henderson, from Hemel Hempstead, will be competing in the Cycling Road discipline. Starting her sporting career in skiing, she used cycling as a way to recover from an injury, before developing a passion for the sport which soon secured her a spot in the 2024 Games.
Max Whitlock, from Hemel Hempstead, is one of Team GB's most successful Gymnastics Artistic athletes. Securing several Olympic wins, including gold, he returns to the Olympic stage after stepping away from his sporting career following mental health issues.
James Albery, from Hertford, is one of the teammates on the Men’s Hockey squad. With a long and impressive career in his sport, injuries made his future in hockey uncertain, before bouncing back and securing his place on the team for Paris 2024.
Emma Reid, from Royston, will be competing in Judo, taking inspiration from her mother, a double World Championship medallist in visually impaired judo. She secured her spot as world 14th in the discipline and will fight for the top in her first Olympics Game.
