12 months of helping the community in the North Chilterns
The area's Community Board has started up several projects
Young people have been fed in the holidays and new businesses supported, thanks to the North Chilterns Community Board.
In just 12 months, the Council group has managed to start up several projects to benefit the area.
At the recent board meeting, members looked back at some of the highlights:
• Initiating a multi-board pilot project with Transitions UK, to mentor and support four young people who are at risk of offending or reoffending.
• Establishing an active environmental sub-group, which includes residents, Climate Action Now groups, Town & Parish Councils and Buckinghamshire Council members, all passionate and expert in this field.
• Delivering the “Be Your Own Boss” programme with Buckinghamshire Business First, to train and support 12 individuals who were considering self-employment as an alternative to employment.
• Designing a “Holiday Hunger” project with Active in the Community, aimed at 11-18-year-olds on free school meals, to provide physical activities and food education.
• Partnering with Bucks Community Energy, to fund the Community Centre in Studley Green to install 30 roof solar panels alongside a scheme for EV charging and heat pumps.
Like all Buckinghamshire’s Community Boards, North West Chilterns has also provided support to communities hit by Covid and continues to respond directly to local issues.
Speaking at the meeting, Chair Gary Hall said:
“We have spent the past 12 months engaging with groups, residents and organisations.
"It has been a steep learning curve at times but we have been extremely proactive and we are already making a positive difference to the local community."
For the coming year the board will create action groups to give specific focus to:
• Economic regeneration
• Environment & climate change
• Traffic & road issues
• Community resilience
Gary Hall added:
“We are really keen to hear from local people and groups who are interested in joining us to take action on local issues and make a real difference. Tell your family, tell your friends, the more people who get involved, the more energy and ideas we have to make things happen."
