West Country charity receives mystery donation in the post
Bristol Autism Support opened the post to find a wad of old £20 notes in the mailbox
The mystery continues here in the West Country - as yet another local charity has been handed a mystery donation of more than £1000 in the post - made up of old £20 notes.
The money isn't officially any more in circulation, but it is legal tender - and can be transferred over at the Post Office.
The latest organisation to be handed the cash is Bristol Autism Support, who tell us they were 'blown away' at the susprise.
In a statement, Louise Mills from the organisation said: "My colleague Jade did her usual check in with Reception yesterday to pick up post. Amongst the letters we received was a package she initially thought contained flyers. To our complete surprise, lots of old £20 notes fell out of the envelope.
"We weren’t expecting this donation and there is no note or clue as to who has sent it to us. We understand we are now the 3rd charity to receive a donation from the mystery donor. We received £1020 when the notes were counted.
"We’ve been completely blown away by this – such a generous donation to a small charity will have an enormous impact on the families we support in and around Bristol.
"Despite the notes being old, we’ve been able to bank them successfully.
"The donation will go towards supporting our charity’s ongoing work, including free in-person support, a helpline, training and information sessions, free membership, volunteer opportunities and family events for families supporting autistic children (with or without a diagnosis). We work within Bristol, BANES, South Glos, and North Somerset. Our work increased by 48% in 2023 and we delivered 112% more sessions."
