The first major corporate esports festival for the whole of the South West is underway

The regional competition - attracting members of the South West's tech sector - at Exeter College is to highlight the growing regional industry and opportunities.

The event has been organised by Tech South West in partnership with Exeter College - which offers an esport business qualification.

A spokesperson for the event said: "Esports is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, with a global revenue of over $1bn and an audience of 474m in 2021, according to Newzoo.

"Esports first appeared as an official medal sport at the Asian Indoor Games in Macau in 2007, with the International Olympic Committee suggesting in 2017 that they may be included in future Olympic tournaments."

Proceeds from the Devon-based event will be given to the Ted Wragg Trust, which is committed to helping transform the lives of young people through learning.

Today sixteen teams from major organisations and businesses across the region are competing to be the first champions of the tournament.
