Semington man sentenced after pleading guilty to drink driving
A man has been given a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to drink driving in Semington.
Lewis Anthony Broad, 28, of St George's Court, Semington, appeared at Salisbury Magistrates Court on March 7.
Shortly before 10pm on March 6, an officer was responding to an unrelated emergency call travelling through High Street, Semington, when he noticed a vehicle coming towards him on the wrong side of the road.
The officer – PC Luke Hobbs – turned his car around and stopped the vehicle. The driver – Broad - was clearly intoxicated. He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and appeared in court the following day.
PC Hobbs said: “Broad was clearly drunk when he was stopped – his eyes appeared bloodshot and he was unsteady on his feet. He admitted that he had been drinking that evening and his journey home would have taken just eight minutes on foot. It was an irresponsible decision to get behind the wheel of the car that night and it is a decision that could have cost lives.
“Broad was driving on the wrong side of the road when I spotted him – his ability to concentrate on what he was doing was seriously impacted by consuming alcohol and it is extremely fortunate that nobody was hurt as a result of his actions.”
Broad was given an eight week custodial sentence suspended for 24 months. He was also disqualified from driving for 45 months, and ordered to pay £85 costs and £128 victim surcharge.
