Man suffers 'potentially life-changing injuries' after falling off bike whilst being towed by car

A man who was holding on to a moving car whilst on a pushbike is in a serious condition in hospital - after falling off.

Wiltshire Police say the man in his 40s suffered potentially life-changing injuries following the incident on Spa Road in Melksham yesterday evening (31 May).

The driver - a women in her 40s - was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous and drug driving - and remains in custody.

In a statement, Melksham Police said: "At around 6.35pm, a man in his 40s on a red pushbike is thought to have been holding on to the side of a moving car and was being towed along Spa Road.

"He was unable to maintain his connection to the car and has fallen off, suffering injuries which are potentially life-changing.

"He was air lifted to hospital for treatment.

"The driver of the car, a woman in her 40s, left the scene but was later found at a property nearby.

"She was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and for drug driving and remains in custody for questioning."

The police have launched an appeal for witnesses of the collision - and also want to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage of what happened.
