A postman charged with the murder of his one-month-old son will face trial next year.

Tony Bartlett is accused of killing his son Atticus Bartlett in Chard, Somerset, on July 23, 2022.

The 38-year-old, of Axminster, Devon, appeared before Bristol Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Wednesday. He did not enter a plea to the murder charge.

A trial date of June 22 next year was fixed and it is expected to last for three weeks.

Judge Peter Blair KC, the Recorder of Bristol, fixed a further case management hearing for June 20 and released Bartlett on conditional bail.

Officers were called by paramedics to an address in Chard at about 11.30pm on July 16, 2022.

The baby was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died there on July 23, police previously confirmed.
