Police are working to tackle knife crime, says PCC after Bath stabbing

The man in charge of holding Avon and Somerset Police to account says they are working to tackle knife crime, after the killing of a 16-year-old boy in Bath.
Mikey Roynon from Kingswood in South Gloucestershire died on Saturday night (10 June) after being stabbed once while at a gathering of young people in Eastfield Avenue in Bath.
Three boys, a 15-year-old and 16-year-old from Wiltshire and a 15-year-old from Dorset continue to be questioned by officers on suspicion of murder, while a further eight teenagers who were arrested on Saturday night have been released without charge.
Mark Shelford, who is the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Avon and Somerset says: “I am aware of the deeply distressing and tragic incident in Bath on Saturday, in which a 16-year-old boy from South Gloucestershire was killed.
"I would like to pass on my thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the young man.
“As your PCC I have sought reassurance from Avon and Somerset Police, to ensure they are being proactive and working closely with local partners and the community to put support in place for those affected by this terrible incident.
“Bath & North East Somerset Children’s Services, neighbouring authorities, youth workers and educational psychologists are working with local schools and the police to provide support to those affected by this incident.
“In addition, Youth Connect South West and Project 28 have Youth Workers in Weston and Bath city centre, ready to listen and support young people.
“I understand residents’ concerns about knife crime, and I would like to reassure you that the police, our partners, and local communities are working together to tackle the root causes of this issue."
PCC Shelford also asks anyone with information on the stabbing, with photos or footage of what happened, to get in touch with Avon and Somerset Police by ringing 101.
Since Mikey's death a Go Fund Me page has been set up to support his family, which has already raised more than ÂŁ12,000.
A post written by the creator reads: "As you can imagine his mum and dad are distraught their son will forever be 16.
"Mikey was such a kind loving and thoughtful soul who cared so much about his friends and family.
"He was so funny and fearless."
