Pick-up / drop-off parking to stop with double red lines near Bristol Airport

Double red lines are being installed on a section of the A38 near Bristol Airport from today (July 3).
North Somerset Council say it's to improve road safety, with the lines existing the current double yellows on the road.
They're being introduced to prevent drop off and pick up parking - which the local authority say is causing 'serious issues' in the area.
Cllr Hannah Young, North Somerset Council's executive member with responsibility for highways said: "The A38 is a major route and the inconsiderate actions of some drivers are putting the lives of others at risk, creating a safety issue around the airport and causing substantial delays to other motorists.
"We hope these lines will solve the problems and those who ignore the rules will be fined. There will be no tolerance."
Inspector Christian Gresswell from Bristol Airport policing team added: “We welcome the introduction of this red route and believe it will help reduce the risk of incidents caused by illegal, inconsiderate and dangerous parking.
"Only recently a rider was knocked off his motorbike as a direct result of illegal parking, sustaining significant injuries. This is the type of incident that we are looking to prevent and the red route will assist in making the roads safer for the public.”
Cllr Steve Hogg, councillor for Wrington ward where Bristol Airport is located, said: "For many years, the communities that surround Bristol Airport have suffered the consequences of illegal and inconsiderate parking by those seeking to avoid the airport short stay or drop off parking facilities.
"While this red route will not prevent all illicit parking, it will certainly make a difference along that stretch of road, and hopefully make the journey a little safer for more considerate road users."
The lines are only the second of their kind in North Somerset, and they will be installed between Monday 3 and Friday 7 July using traffic lights and lane closures between 8pm and 6am.
Once in place they will be enforced by the Bristol Airport policing team and anyone parked on them will be issued with a fine.
People dropping off and picking up from the airport should use the waiting zone at the entrance of the Silver Zone car park.
