A murder investigation is underway in Bath following the death of a man in his 70's.

Avon and Somerset (AS) Police were called to an address in Kelston View at around 12:10pm on Tuesday (11th February) and found the man dead at the scene. Formal identification has not yet been completed, but officers say they have informed the man's next of kin, who are now being supported.

A 29-year-old man is being questioned after being arrested in the Oxford area. A police cordon is expected to remain at the scene on Kelston View for several days.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Neil Meade of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this hugely upsetting time.

"Specially-trained family liaison officers will provide them with support, as well as updates as our investigation progresses.

“We can confirm that an arrest was made in the Oxford area and the man remains in custody for questioning."

AS Police say they appreciate the news will come as a shock to the community, but say they do not believe there is any wider risk to the public.

“Enquiries are being carried out at the address in Kelston View and we expect a scene to remain in place for the next few days," SIO Meade said.

“The local neighbourhood team though will be conducting extra patrols around the area to ensure we have uniformed officers and PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers) available to speak to anyone with concerns.”

Anyone who knows anything about what happened is asked to call 101 and quote reference number 5225036867.
