A man has been charged with murder following the death of an elderly woman in Bath.

Delia Haxworth (85) passed away on Tuesday morning after being found needing urgent medical attention at an address on Upper Lansdown Mews.

William Arthur Haxworth (87), from the same road, appeared at Bath Magistrates Court facing the charge earlier today and will appear at Bristol Crown Court tomorrow (Friday 21st June).

Detective Inspector Mark Newbury said: ""Our thoughts are very much with Delia's family as they begin to come to terms with this tragedy.

"Although a man has been charged we are still in the early stages of our investigation. I hope that anyone with information will come forward to help us find the answers for the family."

Officers are now keen to speak to anyone who saw an elderly man walking between Upper Lansdown Mews and Bennett Street that day with a rucksack, or who saw a man climbing scaffolding on Bennett Street.

Anyone with information is urged to call 101.
