Bristol Airport say they're 'deeply disappointed' as Lufthansa's decided to temporarily suspend services to Frankfurt from February.

Bosses say the route, introduced back in June 2021 after a pandemic-related delay, was 'performing well', adding they'll 'continue to work' with the airline to bring back the 'important city link'.

Lufthansa say there's been a knock-on impact with 'unscheduled maintenance work' on its A320neo fleet.

A spokesperson from Bristol Airport said: “We are deeply disappointed to hear of Lufthansa’s decision to temporarily suspend the service between Bristol and Frankfurt, since the route was performing well and gaining market share.

"We will continue to work with Lufthansa to return the service and restart this important city link once the aircraft issues have been resolved.”

The issues are all to do with maintenance problems, according to the airline.

In a statement, a spokesperson from Lufthansa told us: "Lufthansa is continuously evaluating and optimizing its entire route network.

"Due to unscheduled maintenance work on Pratt & Whitney engines in the Lufthansa Airbus A320neo fleet, Lufthansa Airlines will have significantly fewer aircraft available next year than originally planned.

"The company has therefore decided to suspend some routes from February 2024 that have not shown a positive economic development in recent months. The routes to the UK which are affected are Frankfurt - Bristol and Frankfurt - Liverpool.

"Lufthansa regrets this decision. The cancellations will be published in the reservation systems on December 19, 2023 and passengers affected by cancellations will be informed."
