The Christmas season might still be a while off, but planning for one of the biggest festive events in Wiltshire is well underway.

Longleat safari park has announced the theme for the 2023 Festival of Lights - Treasured Tales.

The huge lanterns around the estate grounds will return from 11th November to 7th January 2024.

They'll take inspiration from stories from our childhood, like The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe; Cinderella; Snow White; The Wizard of Oz and more.

There's a new additions to the line-up for this year, with a Christmas Market area being brought in.

But the 15 metre high Enchanted Singing Christmas Tree will be back, and the Santa Train will return as usual.

Last year's lanterns were based around the theme of Roald Dahl's books

Tickets on sale now

Longleat say that feedback from last year's event means they've made some changes to the tickets for entry this time around.

There's three ticket types for 2023 - the standard day ticket; a 'non-safari' day ticket which doesn't include the drive-through elements, but does allow visitors to see the animals on foot; and the twilight ticket, for entry just to see the lights, with entry after 5.00pm.

Two routes around the lanterns are also being planned this year 'to better spread guests around the park'.

That follows some concerns last year about crowding and being hurried through to allow more visitors along the lantern trail.

Tickets are already available via the Longleat website.
