LOCAL ELECTION RESULTS: Bristol, Bath and Somerset

Results are in after local council elections across Bristol, Bath, and Somerset.

Voters went to the polls on Thursday (6 May) to choose candidates for Bristol City Council, the Mayor of Bristol, the Mayor for the West of England Combined Authority, the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner and smaller parish and town councils in Somerset.

BRISTOL CITY COUNCIL:

The results for all 70 seats on Bristol City Council are due to be announced this afternoon (9 May). Votes are being counted for all 34 wards across the city.

BRISTOL MAYOR:

Marvin Rees has been re-elected mayor of Bristol, having first come into the role in 2016.

The Labour candidate beat closest rival Sandy Hore-Ruthven from the Greens by around 14-thousand votes.

AVON AND SOMERSET POLICE AND CRIME COMMISSIONER:

With Sue Mountstevens not up for re-election this year we were guaranteed a new PCC for Avon and Somerset.

Mark Shelford has now been elected into the role, polled over 161,000 first and second preference votes.

His closest rival, Labour's Kerry Barker, got just over 146,000.

Following his election, Mark said: "“A huge responsibility that has been placed on my shoulders and I’m very humbled that local people have given me their votes. I absolutely relish the chance to get stuck in and make a difference in Avon and Somerset."

WEST OF ENGLAND COMBINED AUTHORITY MAYOR

Labour's Dan Norris will lead the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) after winning the most first and second preference votes with a total of 125,482.

Norris says he ran to focus on issues such as the development of regional business, skills, housing and transport – issues that impact people living and working across the region.

MENDIP DISTRICT COUNCIL

A few seats were up for grabs on Mendip District Council.

St Benedict's Ward, Glastonbury Town Council - Clive Bishop (CON) elected

Shepton Mallet West Ward, Shepton Mallet Town Council - Bob Champion (LIB DEM), Dave Crisfield, Jane Nicklin, Mirka Stadtruckerova and Becky Stokes-Stephens (FUTURE SHEPTON) elected

Wells Central Ward, Wells City Council - Sarah Powell (IND) and Tanys Pullin (CON) elected

Wells St Cuthbert Ward, Wells City Council - Sebastian Johns (CON) elected

Wells St Thomas' Ward, Wells City Council - Tracy Leach (CON) elected

District Councillor for Wells St Thomas' Ward - Tanys Pullin (CON) elected
