The car parks open from 9pm tonight at Glastonbury to help ease congestion - allowing people to travel during the night when the roads are quieter.

Those arriving overnight have to wait in their vehicles though, until the gates open at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning

The festival itself gives a multi-million pound boost to the local economy and suppliers, as well as raising millions for local and international charities.

Adrian Ashford and his family open up their nearby farm for people to camp in, despite not being affiliated to the festival.

This year will be the third time the Willow Meadows site has been operated by his family - who have invested in their facilities and say it helps them and also the local economy.

The co-director said: "From the point of view of benefits for the local community, we use entirely local friends and family.

"We don't use any contractors from outside the area, although we do for the specialisms of water and power.

"This year we are using a very local caterer who is being displaced because of the traffic management from the festival from their normal layby slot. We've got them providing a catering option for all of our people."

While not affiliated to the festival, he said: "They certainly do offer us support. "We've got direct communication with a representative with them who helps us conduit enquiries both ways."

Later this week Greatest Hits Radio will be hearing from a Somerset charity which also directly benefits from the festival.

Yesterday we reported on how a mural to the NHS was unveiled at the Glastonbury festival site - which this year will be entirely powered by renewable energy.
