Internet provider fined for double breach in Mendips
Truespeed has been ordered to pay more than ÂŁ13,000
Internet service provider Truespeed has been handed a hefty double fine after being found guilty of two offences earlier this year.
After digging up roads in Somerset without permission Truespeed has been ordered to pay more than ÂŁ13,000.
In May the internet service provider failed to ensure the works were safely signed, lit and guarded and didn't provide a valid permit.
In sentencing the judge noted the company's previous good character and that they had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.
The judge also said the offences were committed due to a lack of proper planning of the works.
The company was fined ÂŁ4,000 on the first charge and ÂŁ4,000 on the second charge.
Costs of ÂŁ5,000 and a victim surcharge of ÂŁ195 were also awarded against Truespeed.
Councillor John Woodman said: "To work on our highways, you must co-operate with the Highways authority and avoid unnecessary disruption on our roads.
"We want to make it clear that we take complaints seriously and deal with them in a speedy manner."
The case was heard at North Somerset Magistrates on Thursday 9th December.
