Almost 30 local employers have gathered for today's event in the Argos distribution centre at Junction 24, off the M5, all with live vacancies - ahead of the site closing later this year

Sedgemoor Council is behind today's event, after warning the planned closure will have a big knock-on impact on the area's economy.

A spokesperson said: "In April 2021, Argos announced that the company would be closing its distribution centre, located at Junction 24 of the M5 near Bridgwater.

"There are approximately 500 employees facing redundancy - including more thasn 300 full time staff at the site - during the first months of 2022, with massive impacts for the workers and their families, as well as affecting Sedgemoor’s local economy.

"Right from day one, after the announcement, Sedgemoor District Council’s Skills and Employment staff have been helping to support the management, unions and employees of Argos to try to find employment for the affected staff. "
