Much of the South West is being told to prepare for heavy rain and strong winds on Wednesday (October 21st).

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning which also covers the South East, London, the East of England and parts of the Midlands.

The severe weather alert lasts from 3am until 2pm.

Forecasters have said some homes, particularly in coastal areas, may be at risk of flooding.

Spray and flooding on roads may increase journey times during the morning rush hour, with bus and train services also set to be affected.

A Met Office forecaster said:

"Heavy rain will move north during the early hours of the morning and persist through the peak morning travel period, before clearing northeastwards.

"10-15 mm of rain will fall widely, with as much as 30 to 50 mm in a few locations.

"With much of this falling in a short period, around three to six hours, some surface-water flooding is likely in places, leading to disruption to travel."
