Bath University student and sporting scholar Tom Dean has had the Olympic performance of dreams.

He already swam to victory in the men's 200m freestyle on Tuesday - narrowly beating his Team GB opponent Duncan Scott by 0.04 seconds.

Early on Wednesday morning, he was part of the men's 4x200m freestyle team that dominated the pool in their relay - taking another gold.

Team mate James Guy was overcome with emotion on the podium, with Tom putting his arm around him as they collected their medals.

The achievement makes the mechanical engineering student the first British male to win double Olympic swimming golds in 113 years.

In an interview this week, his mum Jacquie Hughes said how proud she was of the way he has carried himself over the last year, explaining he'd contracted coronavirus twice.

Earlier this year it was reported he could barely walk up the stairs, with Tom saying at that time, winning a gold medal felt 'a million miles off'.

The 21 year old has already won several golds in European swimming, but Tokyo 2020 is his Olympic debut.
