Chippenham MP reveals serious illness
It means the Lib Dem will be scaling back her duties for the foreseeable future
The Liberal Democrat MP for Chippenham is scaling back her workload after revealing she spent Christmas seriously unwell in hospital.
In a statement released this afternoon (9th January) Sarah Gibson, who was elected as a Member of Parliament in July last year, says she spent five days in intensive care at Bath's Royal United Hospital and then a further five days under observation, before being sent home.
Exactly what she was suffering with has not been made public, but Greatest Hits Radio understands she does have a path to recovery and has no intention of resigning her seat on health grounds.
"Whilst the condition is manageable and I continue to receive excellent care, I have been advised by doctors to focus on my recovery," a statement on her website reads.
"For the short term, this will mean reducing my workload and the amount of time I can spend outside of my home."
It means for the foreseeable future Ms Gibson will not attend public engagements, participate in parliamentary debates or go to events, but she adds her office remains open and will continue dealing with constituency issues in her absence.
"I deeply appreciate your understanding and support as I prioritise my health to ensure I can continue to represent you effectively in the long term," she said.
"I look forward to resuming my full duties as soon as possible and will keep you updated on my progress."
