Bath and Wiltshire's four Michelin restaurants have kept most of their stars in this year's list - which was announced today.

The prestigious ratings are given out once a year, based on outstanding cooking - as well as the quality of ingredients, the mastery of techniques, and consistency over time and across the menu.

Olive Tree in Bath, Bybrook in Castle Combe and Restaurant Hywel Jones by Lucknam Park in Colerne have retained their one star status, while The Dining Room in Malmesbury drops from 2 stars down to 1.

The Olive Tree was praised for its 'high quality cooking', 'architectural heritage' and '21st C Comfort', while Restaurant Hywel Jones was described as 'country house dining at its finest'.

Although it dropped to one star, The Dining Room received praise for its 'modern, artfully presented dishes', and also has a Michelin Green Star for gastronomy and sustainability.

Across the UK restaurant scene, there are 19 new one star places, 5 new restaurants with 2 stars, and one restaurant in Cumbria has been awarded the rare accolade of a 3rd Michelin star.
