Bath Rugby has updated its plans for a new stadium at The Rec, saying the changes reflect feedback from the public, key stakeholders and Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) Council.

The club first submitted plans to upgrade and expand the ground in 2023, saying the proposals would increase the ground's capacity from 14,500 to 18,000.

However, whilst the feedback to the initial proposal was largely positive, some suggested potential negatives including an impact on the view of the city from the East.

The new proposals made public today (23rd December) include lowering the height of the West and East Stands.

"This submission is another important milestone for the club and the city," said Tarquin McDonald, Chief Executive of Bath Rugby.

"We’ve listened closely to the community and our stakeholders, as well as the numerous statutory consultees that are invited to comment on planning applications, and we are committed to delivering a stadium that not only meets the needs of our fans but also respects the rich heritage of Bath.

"The amended submission showcases an exciting vision for the future, with significant public benefits that will positively contribute to the entire community.

"We now look forward to the Council bringing the proposals to a planning committee in the New Year."

Other proposals in the plans include enhanced landscaping to the River Avon which the stadium sits alongside and a "re-engineered and enhanced seating bowl".

Various proposals which featured in the initial plans remain, including:

  • The 18,000 capacity
  • A regenerated riverside including a new Spring Gardens Walk
  • Retention of mature trees as well as further landscaping and bio-diversity measures
  • A riverside café/restaurant, club shop and museum
