Bath Rugby have submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of their Recreation Ground.

The club’s chief CEO, Tarquin McDonald, has announced their hopes for a new stadium to replace the current stands.

The new site will seat 18,000 people - 3,500 thousand more fans than the ground currently holds.

“No-one has ever developed a new stadium in a world heritage city before so this is a historic milestone for the club and also for the city,” Tarquin McDonald said.

The plans also hope to regenerate the riverside in Bath, with a hybrid pitch for community and amateur use and a new Spring Gardens Walk.

Mr McDonald said: “It’s about riverside regeneration and creating wider sporting and community benefits for everyone in Bath and the wider community”.

The new developments will also try to tie into the city’s net zero targets, with a retention of mature trees and further landscaping and bio-diversity measures.

“We are absolutely delighted to have submitted our proposals.

“This is the culmination of many years of collaboration, listening and refining, which we now believe delivers the world-class facility that Bath Rugby and the wider city deserves.”

These plans are dependent on Bath and North East Somerset’s approval and support from the people of Bath.
