A Bath footballer, who needed brain surgery after a serious head injury in a match last month, has been released from hospital.

Bath City player Alex Fletcher says he's now continuing with his rehab at home with his fiancée and has thanked everyone for their continued support.

Twenty-three-year-old Fletcher suffered a severe injury when he collided with an advertising hoarding during a National League South game against Dulwich Hamlet, on November 8.

He was rushed to hospital, needed surgery and found himself in a critical condition in intensive care, while the match was abandoned.

"I am over the moon to tell you that I have now been discharged from hospital and I am back at home with my Fiancé Ellie to continue my rehabilitation following my brain surgery just over 3 weeks ago," a statement from Fletcher reads.

"Whilst I know that it may take some time to get back out on the pitch, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all once again for your incredible care, love and support.

"It would not have been possible for me to get this stage without you all."

A Go Fund Me page set up after the incident has raised more than £17,500 pounds to date for his family.
