Almost a week on from colliding with an advertising hoarding board during a match, Bath City's Alex Fletcher remains in a critical condition in hospital.

His parents have said that although he is still in intensive care, he is starting to show small signs of improvement.

They've issued a statement through the football club:

"Alex remains in a critical condition in intensive care but is starting to show small signs of improvement. The care and treatment he is receiving from the doctors and nurses is beyond words, and the love, support and messages of goodwill that the whole football world has sent to Alex has been completely overwhelming. His family sincerely thank each and everyone for sending them and we pray that Alex will continue to make progress in the days ahead."

The accident happened 5 minutes into last Tuesday's (8 November) game with Dulwich Hamlet at Twerton Park, leading to the match being abandoned.

He was left with a serious head injury and underwent emergency neurosurgery to stabilise his condition.
