#LeadersInLockdown: Bath Clean Air Zone "shouldn't" impact businesses financially
BANES Council leader Dine Romero has spoken to use about the Clean Air Zone as part of our exclusive #LeadersinLockdown interview
Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) Council leader Dine Romero says Bath's Clean Air Zone (CAZ) "shouldn't" impact businesses financially.
The comment came during our exclusive Leaders in Lockdown interview, where we put questions from you our listeners, to our local leaders.
Asked how the CAZ is likely to impact Bath's recovery from coronavirus, Dine said they have contacted 9,000 businesses to ensure they are aware of the change.
"One of the things we've been asked by government to ensure is we do the minimum for the maximum effect," she said.
"We've not been, and we wouldn't want to do this, able to just shut the city full stop.
"We've had to implement a range of measures and part of that is about encouraging people when they're looking to upgrade their vehicles, to upgrade to a compliant vehicle, and also look at people's circumstances, businesses circumstances, to see if there are other ways we can help them as well."
The zone came into force on Monday (15/03) meaning from now on commercial vehicles that enter into it will be charged.
Smaller non compliant vehicles like vans and taxis will face daily charges of £9, while larger lorries and HGV's face £100 daily fees.
