It has been revealed 165 rough sleepers in Wiltshire have been given a permanent roof over their head over the last two years.

Wiltshire Council's 'Housing Led' scheme has utilised government funding, to offer homeless people long-term accommodation.

The local authority follows-up the housing offer with dedicated support for individuals, designed to ensure they have the best chance of making the move a success.

People are taught about financial awareness, health needs and other life skills, to help them tackle potential crises in the future.

'We can make a real difference'

Speaking about the latest person to receive help from the initiative, Phil Alford, Cabinet Member for Housing, said the Council is "ready to support him to make these changes a success".

"This is one of the many ways we can make a real difference," he added.

The Council currently has several properties dedicated to the project - and plans to purchase a further nine homes.

Latest statistics from homeless charity Crisis suggest more than 200,000 people across the UK experienced rough sleeping in 2021.

Furthermore, it's estimated 446 people in Wiltshire and Swindon are currently in temporary accommodation, or are homeless.
