Two women have been left in a serious condition in hospital after a crash between a car and a lorry in East Ayrshire.

At around 1.30pm on Tuesday emergency services were called to the collision involving an MG ZS and an HGV on the A70 at Ochiltree.

The 59-year-old woman driving the car and her 88-year-old passenger were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where staff describe their condition as serious.

The 30-year-old man driving the HGV was not injured.

The road was closed to allow for crash investigation to be carried out and reopened around midnight.

Police say enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash and officers are appealing for witnesses.

Road Policing Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash and who has not already spoken to police to get in touch.

“I would also ask anyone who was travelling on the road around the time and who may have dash cam footage which could assist to contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1705 of 4 June, 2024.
