A woman is in a serious but stable condition in hospital following a four vehicle crash on the A77 in Ayr.

The 30-year-old was driving a green Citroen C4 Cactus which collided with a grey Volkswagon Tiguan, a white Mercedes HGV and a white Ford Fiesta van between the Bankfield and Holmston roundabouts at around 4.40pm on Wednesday.

She was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where her condition is described as serious but stable.

The driver of the Tiguan, a 49-year-old woman, was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock for treatment.

No one else was injured.

The road was closed and re-opened around midnight.

Road policing officers are now appealing for information to help work out what happened.

Police Constable Stewart Carden said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened and we are asking anyone who can assist to get in touch.

“If you were in the area at the time and can help or have dash-cam footage that has captured useful information then please make contact with officers.”

Anyone who can assist I asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2528 of Wednesday, 26 June, 2024.
