Councillor not 'taking chances' after pills and broken glass found in kids play area
Craig Mackay is calling for mobile CCTV cameras to reassure local parents.
A Troon councillor says he ‘isn’t taking any chances’ after a member of the public found a bag of pills scattered around a children’s play park with broken glass this week.
One concerned local parent found a large number of white pills in the park near Queens Drive in Troon and reached out to the councillor with concerns for the wellbeing and safety of kids and animals.
Craig Mackay said he was ‘disgusted’ to hear the news and immediately had a meeting with Police to discuss the matter.
Police told the SNP Councillor they believe it to be an isolated incident but will monitor the area daily to reassure locals.
Mr Mackay wants to offer further reassurance to people in the area by having temporary CCTV cameras set up in the park to make sure it was just a one off.
He told Greatest Hits Radio: “I have to say I was absolutely disgusted to hear that these pills and broken glass had been scattered in the area, and as a parent myself can appreciate the dire consequences these pills lying about could have had.
“The parent was rightfully very concerned about this.
“The Police have added this play area to their daily patrol plan. They said they believe it to be a one-off incident, so that at least offers some degree of reassurance.
“It is an isolated incident so far, but if it was to happen again it would be very serious. At the moment I don’t want to take any chances, so I have also raised this with the councils community safety officer to try and get a mobile CCTV camera there.”
