People evacuated from their homes in Kilmarnock earlier are back inside after a car crashed into the side of a house on Livingstone Court.

Emergency services were called to New Farm Loch at around 9.25 this morning after a car crashed into a property in Livingston Court, causing a gas leak.

This woman - who doesn't want to be named - lives in the property hit by the vehicle and told Greatest Hits Radio: "I heard a really loud noise and thought the house was falling down.

"I could not get the door open and the smell of the gas was horrendous.

"The pipes were burst and gas was leaking out.

"We had to cover them in dish towels."

Scottish Gas Networks (SGN) has confirmed the area is safe again after carrying out checks.

One woman who was told to get out her property told Greatest Hits Radio: "The police must have been here within five minutes - it was a good response time.

"I heard a bang and I thought a lorry had crashed into something."
