One dead and two injured after A71 crash near Darvel

One woman has died, and two men are injured after a crash on the A71 between Newmilns and Darvel.

The incident happened around 11.05am on Thursday October 17 and involved a red Ford Focus Zetec and a silver Mercedes Vito.

A 27 year old woman, the driver of the Ford, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger in the Ford, a 24 year old man, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 52 year old man, was taken to Crosshouse University Hospital in Kilmarnock, also with non-life threatening injuries.

The road was closed for around 10 hours to allow for crash investigations and re-opened at 9pm.

Police Appeal

Sergeant Martin Cunningham said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at what is a difficult time for all.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

“In particular, if you were driving in the area at the time please check your dash-cam to see if you have anything that could help with our investigation.”
