A CalMac ferry has had to dock in Ayr this morning due to an urgent reshuffle in the west coast fleet.

Anyone passing through Ayr this morning, may have spotted the MV Hebridean Isles as it sailed up the South Ayrshire coastline to dock.

The ferry which usually operates between Kennacraig and Islay will dock overnight in Ayr after experiencing manoeuvrability issues.

CalMac were unable to dock the ferry at Troon due to a lack of space at the port, with the MV Alfred stationed there tonight.

The re-shuffle of the fleet is due to ‘adverse’ weather conditions expected to the Ayrshire coastline on Wednesday 2 August.

A spokesperson for CalMac said: “MV Hebridean Isles has been temporarily relocated to Ayr due to adverse weather forecasts leading to lack of berth space in other locations.

Due to adverse weather forecast on Wednesday 2 August, MV Caledonian Isles will berth overnight on the Irish berth in Ardrossan tonight (Tuesday 1 August).

“As a result, MV Alfred will relocate to Troon for overnight berthing tonight. Due to lack of space at Troon, and to accommodate the relocation of MV Alfred, MV Hebridean Isles has been requested to temporarily move to Ayr.”
