A former tax office in Irvine is finally set to reopen its doors as an Early Years Centre, after years of delays.

Marress House was originally due to be opened in August last year, but after what North Ayrshire Council described as “significant contractor delays”, the project stalled.

It will now open its doors for the first intake of children on August 20, next week.

Head of Centre Deborah Gott said: “My team and I are really looking forward to welcoming the children to this fantastic, well-equipped centre.

“We are delighted that all the boxes are beginning to be unpacked, and we can’t wait to settle the children in and get to work on offering them a wonderful setting to learn in, enjoy new experiences and make friends.”

The facility will be in the grounds of the Cunninghame House headquarters, and will separately be home to the council’s Public CCTV and Concierge Service.

It also has a training suite, which can be used for skillset enhancement sessions for the Early Years workforce across the authority.
