Man dies after being rescued from Ayrshire river

He was pulled from the water by emergency teams but died in hospital a short time later

A man has died after being pulled from water in North Ayrshire.

Police were made aware of concern for the 49-year-old in the River Irvine near to Marress Road around 8.45pm on Thursday.

He was rescued from the river and was taken to Crosshouse hospital but died a short time later.

Officers say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of concern for a man in the River Irvine near to Marress Road in Irvine shortly after 8.40pm on Wednesday, 14 June.

“The 49-year-old was rescued from the water and taken to Crosshouse Hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
