A 12-year-old boy required hospital treatment after he was knocked down by a motorbike in Irvine, with the driver then fleeing the scene.

It happened on a footpath in Knadgerhill Cemetery on Bank Street at around 8pm on Tuesday night.

The boy was cycling his bike when he was hit by the motorbike.

The 12-year-old was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital, while the driver of the motorbike made off.

Officers are appealing for witnesses as enquiries continue into the incident.

Road Policing Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “I’m appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened to get in touch. Were you out walking or driving near the cemetery around 8pm yesterday and saw an off road motorbike?

“Perhaps you have dash cam or private CCTV of the area that’s captured something of significance. If you do, then I would urge you to come forward.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting reference 3970 of 20 June, 2023.
