A primary pupil from Beith has caught the attention of his teachers after writing and inspiring poem about his dad’s first Christmas back home.
Beith Primary lad Jamie Greer knew exactly what he wanted to write about when his teacher tasked the class of writing their Christmas wish in the form of a poem.
The 11-year-old has never been able to spend Christmas day with his dad, due to him serving overseas in the military since Jamie was born.
However, it looks like Jamie’s Christmas wish has come true with his father spending the big day with the full family again after leaving the services.
The primary seven pupil clearly has a flare for writing from the heart, because his teachers sent in the poem to Greatest Hits Radio and it impressed every writer and journalist in the office.
Jamie told Greatest Hits Radio: “ The poem was supposed to be about anything you want to wish for Christmas, so I decided to write about my dad being in the army and never being able to be home for Christmas time.
“I am used to it, but I understand because it’s been happening since I was born. I decided for the poem I would write it at home because that’s where I feel most comfortable doing it and I knew I’d be able to make it good.
“I really looking forward to him being home for Christmas, and I think he is… well he better be! We’re going to get all the Christmas eve activities done with my sister and I can’t wait.”
With expert rhyming and wordsmanship, Jamie has a bright future ahead of him.
When asked about his parents reaction to the poem, Jamie said: “Well my mum started crying, and I think my dad did as well actually. I think it’s because my dad realised just how much we missed him, and for my mum she’s been going through the same thing as me obviously but for much longer.”
