Major delays on A77 with traffic halted between Kilmarnock and Ayr

Drivers are facing lengthy delays in Ayrshire after a crash on the A77 earlier today.

Police have shut down a major road connecting Kilmarnock and Ayr today amid reports of a serious two-car crash.

Traffic has been halted at the Ayr exit from the Bellfield interchange in Kilmarnock.

All lanes on the A77 southbound carriage way remains closed from Grassyards, and drivers are facing delays of 30 minutes according to traffic Scotland.

Traffic heading towards Ayr is being diverted onto the A71 to Irvine.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix states: "A77 Kilmarnock Road Southbound closed, queueing traffic due to accident, two vehicles involved from A71 (Bellfield Interchange) to B730 ( Bogend ). Affecting traffic heading towards Ayr."

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
