SSPCA appeal after cat caught in illegal trap near Macduff
The charity is urging members of the public to get in touch
The Scottish SPCA is appealing to people in Macduff to help with their investigation into an illegal animal trap, after a cat had to be euthanised.
The animal had been caught in the trap in woodland near the town on January 28, and later had to be put to sleep due to the severity of its injuries.
A special investigations inspector said: “These illegal traps are indiscriminate and will cause unnecessary suffering to any animal caught in them.”
After years of campaigning by the charity, the Wildlife Management and Muirburn (Scotland) Bill was passed in the Scottish Parliament in March last year.
"Unnecessary suffering"
The Bill includes a range of measures that will give greater protection to wildlife, including a ban on the use of all forms of snares and ban on use of glue traps.
The inspector continued: “We are asking the public to get in touch if they have any information surrounding the circumstances of this cat or trap by calling our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
Members of the public are also being urged to get in touch if they find other trapped animals, or a trap or snare they suspect to be illegal.
