Rod Stewart gives £10,000 to NHS Grampian for cancer scans
The donation follows the singer's own battle with prostate cancer
NHS Grampian is saying thank you to Sir Rod Stewart after becoming the latest Health Board to get a financial donation towards patient care from the star
Sir Rod’s £10,000 donation was inspired by his own experience of prostate cancer and will fund additional diagnostic scans for patients over the weekend of 1-2 July.
That will allow up to 24 people to receive an earlier investigation into potential cancers
Dr Hugh Bishop, Divisional Clinical Director, said: “We are extremely grateful for this generous gesture, which will enable us to schedule additional MRI sessions and help speed-up diagnoses for patients. In addition to the patients directly benefited, this will also allow further patients to be seen sooner due to the appointments being freed up that would have been used for the patients scanned on Sir Rod’s extra lists.
“Sir Rod has a long and well known relationship with Scotland, and he is held in affection by many in NHS Grampian, so being able to share this great news with them is a personal privilege.”
Aberdeen is the latest recipient of Sir Rod’s generosity, which also saw a donation made to Princess Alexandra hospital in Harlow earlier this year.
Sir Rod Stewart said: “It’s vital that people receive early investigations and quick diagnosis. It is an honour to be in the position to be able to help support the NHS by funding some additional scans to boost NHS Grampian’s current capacity.”
