Asda's Bridge of Don supermarket has been closed after a fire broke out in the early hours of Monday morning.

Four fire appliances were sent to the store on Jesmond Drive just before 5am following reports of a fire.

The blaze broke out while the store was closed and no one was injured.

Crews left the scene at around 7am after the flames were extinguished.

Asda said it will be closed until further notice.

An Asda spokesperson said: “We’ve had to temporarily close our Middleton Park Superstore this morning and will let the community know when the store re-opens. In the meantime, customers can be assured that our fantastic colleagues are ready to serve them at our Aberdeen Beach Superstore, which remains open."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 4.55am on Monday, 3 March to reports of a fire within a building in the Bridge of Don area of Aberdeen.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the city's Jesmond Drive, where firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene around 6.58am.

"There were no casualties."
